About

We, as a Community of Hinton St. George, saved Our Shop and Post Office from closure in 2011 and some four years later went on to face another real challenge. Following a Quinquennial Inspection, it was discovered our historic, and much loved Church was at risk. The tower was dangerous with pieces of stonework threatening to fall away and there was a real threat that, if work was not carried out, the Church would have to close. With the help of a Heritage Lottery garnt and generous donations, work began to repair the damage. Urgent mainteneance was carried out in 2016/17.

At the same time a group of people from the village estabished a long-term programme of fundraising and set up Our Church Hinton St. George Building Trust. The aim of the Trust is to establish an endowment to ensure the buildings and environs of Our Church are preserved for the Community and that it will be there for the generations that follow. The Trust supports the Parochial Church Council (PCC) which has full responsibility for the Church building. The Trustees of the Trust will consider any request from the PCC for support to repair or maintain the structure, environs and fabric of the Church (in accordance with the Trust Deed) but is not involved in funding or supporting the day to day running of the Church as a place of worship.

A Church building is considered an important part of Christian worship.
